About budgies
- Wild budgies live in Australia's dry interior and travel in big, noisy flocks. Wild ones are green and yellow; blue, white and yellow pets come from breeding.
- They're among the best talkers of all birds. A budgie named Puck holds the record for the biggest bird vocabulary: 1,728 words.
- Males usually talk more. The cere (the bump above the beak) is usually blue on adult males and brown or tan on adult females.
- Budgies are flock birds. A lone budgie needs a lot of your time every day, or a budgie friend.
- They often live 5 to 10 years, sometimes longer.
Want a real one? Bird rescues and shelters have budgies too. Ask your local shelter or search for birds on Petfinder.
